I had the discussion with some co-workers yesterday about how they thought it was strange that I was planning a dinner for El Granto on Valentines Day. The general consensus seems to be that most girls think Valentines Day is a day for guys to spoil them, and they get to kick back and enjoy the pampering. My response to that is: you greedy girls! Love is not one sided my friend, it’s a two way street. Why are you not showing your loved one how much you love and care about them right back this Valentines Day?
Love is love no matter who it’s between, and I think Valentines Day is an excuse to show everyone you love a little something special. Yes it’s become a “Hallmark Holiday” but who cares? You don’t have to buy a card, flowers and chocolates. My favorite valentines day present ever was when El Granto purchased a box of kiddie valentines and proceeded to fill them all out, and hide them around the house. I found one in my jacket pocket almost a month later and practically burst into tears on the subway.
What about sneaking out of bed early and making your loved one breakfast in bed? Hell, just surprising them with a coffee in bed would be a treat! Show your family how much you love them as well. A few kind words can make quite the impact. While you’re at it why not bake some cookies and doll them out at the office?
Here is my challenge to you this Valentines Day:
Be nice to people and show the ones you care about how much they mean to you.
- My co-workers are getting heart shaped donuts
- My hubby is getting a box of truffles from our favorite local chocolate shoppe Stubbe
- We will be sharing a wonderful dinner of blue cheese crusted filet mignon, twice baked potatoes, green beans and some nice red wine. We will finish the meal off with gluten free brownies and an espresso.
- The dog is getting a marrow bone and a snuggle
