I loved the shape and price of the Ikea Ung Drill frame.
So when re-doing our powder room I knew I wanted to use it for a mirror. The only problems were that the finish is a black plastic and it has glass not a mirror. We had a custom mirror cut at Cascade Crystal and gave the frame a facelift with a couple of coats of RustOleum Universal gloss white spray paint. Covering the black frame with white paint used more paint than I thought, and I ran out before the frame was completely covered. I picked up a new can a few days later and did a few touch ups. I left it to dry and came back a few days later to find the paint had crackled! Oh no! I searched ye old interwebs and found out that you can’t wait a few days between coats. The old paint gets grumpy at the new paint and decides to not be friends. My perfect frame wasn’t perfect anymore… I decided to install it and see how it looked in the space, and purchased a new frame just in case I hated it. Once it was installed, I didn’t mind it that much. It looked antique, which was fitting in the room. So what if it’s not perfect!
A few months after completing this project, Ikea came out with an Ung Drill Mirror so now this project would be even cheaper!
