The Night Creeper

Strange footprints in the snow

Remember our flower thief? The bandit who would sneak up to the front of our house and dig out plants from our garden under the cover of darkness?

Well…either they are back, or we have a new night creeper.

Strange footprints in the snow

For the SECOND time this week, I have left the house in the morning to find footprints in the fresh fallen snow leading from the street to steps from our front door. They came right up to our front stoop, but not up onto it. As such, it was not a visitor coming to our door, or someone coming home.

They just walked from the street to our stoop, then turned back around and left. There was no mail or flyers left, no reason for this person to have ventured up to our home.

I’M STARTING TO FREAK OUT A LITTLE.

Who walks up to someone’s house in the middle of the night? Axe murders, that’s who. Or scary men with hook hands, or ghosts. DO GHOSTS LEAVE FOOTPRINTS?

As I see it, here are the viable options on how to handle the Night Creeper:

RUN to the store and buy several Dropcams. Heck, lets just buy everything the store has. Install them around the property, declare a Big Brother state, sleep in shifts, and monitor cameras for Axe Murder around the clock.

Install a moat, trebuchet, and maybe a cannon or two. Commence wearing battle armor and carrying a maul.

Build ice wall. Become the Nights Watch.

  1. Well, if you’re looking for a camera, we just did a blog post on alternatives to Dropcam so you don’t need to pay the extra monthly $$. From my experience, ghosts don’t leave footprints, or they do, mostly because they do whatever they want to do. But I’d put my money on creepers checking for packages left out for the taking.

    1. Ohhhhh Alex, your Samsung cameras were a good find. I was still on camp expensive dropcam for the residual hope that Nest would announce a complete modular home monitoring system at CES. But dammit dropcams are expensive!

  2. I’m up for the 700ft tall ice wall. But you have to start calling me John Snow and Odin will now be Ghost. You can be my Ygritte and tell me I know nothing all the time.

I’m practicing my forlorn staring in to nothingness as I type.
