DIY Housewarming Candle Holder

DIY Housewarming Candle Holder

Nothing says housewarming like lighting things on fire… right? It is called houseWARMING after all.

No no, this post isn’t about burning your friends house down, but I will show you how to warm it with a small (controlled) flame.

Meet my adorable housewarming gift idea; the DIY Housewarming Candle Holder.

DIY Housewarming Candle Holder

Get it, cause its a candle, and fire is hot? Housewarming? AND the candle is a chimney? Yeah, I know, my brilliance knows no ends.

I was inspired by some ceramic house shaped candle holders that I spied in Denmark. When we got the invite to a friend’s housewarming, I knew this was my chance to make the punniest housewarming gift ever.

Here are the supplies:

  • Small piece of 4×4 lumber (we used untreated spruce from Downtown Lumber)
  • Miter Saw
  • Sandpaper
  • Drill
  • Copper Pipe Fitting
  • Finishing Supplies (we used a beeswax finishing wax.)

Here is how you do it:

  • Cut a piece of 4×4 into about a 6″ length
  • Mark the center of one end of your 4×4 on both the front and the back of the wood.
  • Set your miterĀ  saw to a 30degree angle
  • Cut the peak of the roof into your 4×4 by lining up the center mark to your blade.
  • Cut one side first, then flip it over, line up your saw to your mark again, and make the second cut.
  • Now you will have a rough cut little house!
  • Drill a hole in one side of the roof large enough to fit your copper pipe or candle.
  • Sand and finish.
  • Look brilliant to your friends when you roll up to the party, give them coolest gift, and say “oh I just whipped it up at home”.

    1. Thanks Virginia! I never was a candle person, then I traveled to Denmark and they have candles everywhere! I got a bit inspired, and even picked up a couple new brass candlesticks at local Goodwill last weekend!
